SOME COMPUTER TIPS FOR YOU....
First of all, here is a tip from Ken Patterson's Silver
Surfers' site. If you wish to enlarge or decrease the
size of the text on a web page you're looking at,
press down the Control key on your keyboard, and at
the same time slightly turn the little wheel on top of
your mouse one way or the other. Have a go at doing
this now and see what happens. There are other
ways of doing this, but Ken's is the simplest.
Is your email / internet system getting slower and
slower? If so, when did you last delete the temporary
internet files? When you visit a website, your
computer keeps a record of your visit as a temporary
internet file, and these accumulate with time, clogging
up your system. There is more info about these
and what cookies are at the following Microsoft sites …
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/260897/
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/154360/EN-US/
So every now and then, it’s a good idea to delete these
files. Here’s how to do it (my daughter Lucy showed me
this) ………
Select Tools on the top toolbar > Internet Options >
Delete Files. Tick the box where it says, "Delete all
offline content" > OK. I delete cookies at the same
time.
In the History section on the same grey menu, you
could also click on "Clear History", if you wish to keep
secret say travel websites you’ve visited, when
arranging a special holiday for you and your partner.
Press OK when you’ve finished.
If you visit the Google website a lot, as I do, how
about making it your home page (the first page you
see when you go on the internet)?
To set this up, first of all, click on this link to the
website ……. www.google.co.uk .
Now click on Tools and Internet Options again.
In the Home Page section of the grey menu box,
click on "Use Current", and then click on Apply and
OK.
