Changes to the Nottingham U3A Computer Club blogsite

Blogger changed the layout of this site, deleting the header photo in the process, so JH has put
another banner image in its place. Hope you will all like it. I think it looks fresher than the last
one. The banner is 950 x 240 px in size, the resolution of the banner is 300 px/ins, and the font
is Segoe Print.

I have also tidied up the Archives section in the side bar, thanks to the new layout tools
available to Blogger users.

I would be happy to show anyone, how easy it is to create a new post and to tweak the
Blogger layout ... that is anyone in the Computer Club who'd like to take over the running of
this site from me.

I think it would be easy to include the forthcoming Computer Club programme on this Blogger
site ... a list could be copied and pasted into a post like this from a Word document (I don't
know if a table of meetings could be pasted in, but this could be tried out). Any later
amendments to the list could be easily made by editing the post.

Happy New Year to everyone.

From camera to Picasa Web Album

Here's a synopsis of the talk JH gave in August 2012, plus some info
about his next one (on how to create a collage of photos for your
Desktop) ...

JH has updated this website with new pages on how to set up a
WordPress website.

If anyone would like to take over the running of the Computer Club
blogsite, please would you contact JH?

Having a play with the new version of Blogger

I'm experimenting with how to upload photos onto this Blogger site ... I've
been having problems trying to do this, since Blogger changed its design.

Well, it's done it again ... it keeps on downsizing my images to 320 pixels
in width, (as above) which is not what I want.

Online Supermarket Shopping.

JH gave a talk on this subject today.

Here are a few links for you, if you wish to have a look at some of the websites
mentioned today ...

MySupermarket .... good to check out where expensive items are the cheapest.

Tesco

Sainsbury ... note free delivery if you arrange delivery mid-week & spend > £100

Asda (can't find any expiry dates on their offers, so you'd have to pay the full
price for items, if the offers expires by the date of delivery)

Ocado

Waitrose (doesn't deliver food to our postcode in Nottm, but will deliver wine.
Waitrose Wine Direct offers free delivery if you can wait up to 5 days ... no specific date given unless you wish to pay extra for this.)

Iceland

Abel and Cole ... good quality organic food.

The Wine Society ... it is expensive to join, but they offer free delivery
on specific days (half-days) in Nottingham.

If you have a "smart" mobile phone, you can obtain an app for Ocado plus a
barcode reader app, so you can scan and add items straight into your Ocado
shopping basket. Amazing!

Speeding up your old computer & improving its RAM memory

Peter Ram-Gopal writes:
Here are the websites I mentioned in my talk. By the way, while my talk
was directed towards Windows XP, it applies equally to Windows 7.

Google's calculator

Those amazing folk at Google have created an inbuilt calculator in its
search box. Just put in some arithmetic, and see the result instantly,
below the search box.

There are more things you can do with the Google search box ... click
on "More about calculator", (when you're on the Google search box page).
