Using the internet to save shedloads of money
We looked at several websites last Thursday…
You can find the all following websites by a simple search on Google.
“Martin Lewis” for the money saving expert website
Check out Martin’s webpages on
... haggling
... Broadband internet & packages with phone & TV.
There are links at the bottom of each page, to go onto his forums, and to
check out what other readers have found as regards quality of customer care
and the latest bargains to be had.
... using debit/credit cards abroad
... advice on computer anti-virus software etc

Saynoto0807 for cheaper phone numbers. You could use this as a phone directory
for say Scottish Power and other businesses. See if there are any freephone
numbers you can use.
Directory Enquiries for residential phone numbers is on the BT.com website,
so you needn’t phone Maureen.

Energyhelpline & SimplySwitch via Martin’s site, for cheap fuel provision
When you’ve got info on the cheapest fuel provider, check out if there is
more cashback to be had on other cashback sites, such as Quidco and
Topcashback. You could switch companies annually, to get cashback.
The readers forums on Martin’s site advise removing all your cookies to
previous visits to websites such as Aviva. You must do so, in order to get
any cashback from Quidco, Topcashback and other cashback sites.

You can get big savings on car and home insurance, using all the above,
and by simply phoning up companies like Virgin Media and Aviva / Churchill,
and haggling with them … either taking the line that you’re shopping around
for cheaper quotes, or pointing out that Company X if offering £Y for media / insurance services. For media companies, you’ll need to speak to someone in
the disconnections team, and not the usual customer services salesperson.
For car breakdown and recovery, Martin suggests checking out what AutoAid
has to offer, and compare it with what you’re paying for at present.
Also check out Martin’s site for the best credit cards that offer cashback.
However I note that Martin’s site doesn’t include the John Lewis Partnership
credit card, which offers 0.5 to 1 per cent cashback on purchases. You get
the higher rate on purchases at John Lewis & Waitrose (which of course is
part of John Lewis).
