How about using a dongle?

I've just emailed our online members to ask if we could borrow a dongle
from anyone, to try it out at the U3A for an hour or two (possibly with
their laptop as well, if they have one). You plug a dongle into the USB
port of your computer, when you wish to access the internet.

Currently we are on BT Business Broadband in our office, with a low wi-fi
signal connection to Room 2.

Dongles use mobile phone technology and so are not dependent on BT copper
wires or Virgin cabling. However, those of you who have mobile phones will
know that signal strength can be patchy. One of my daughters has to go
outside our house to use her moblie phone.
Dongles are best for light
users of the internet, as we are at Nottm U3A.

There is more info about dongles on this site (which I found on a Google
search)....
