Topics covered in the Computer Club session today, included:

1. How to set up our audio-visual equipment
Both John & Graham presented this subject, with a hands-on demo.
There is info about this already on our main U3A website.
In the Office cupboard, there are laminated instruction sheets also.

2. Setting up a shortcut on the Desktop to use the Microsoft Windows
calculator.

The program for this is hidden in the list of programs, under the
heading "Accessories".

Click on your Start button > All Programs > Accessories > Calculator

A right mouse click on Calculator will bring up another menu ...
click on Send To > Desktop (create shortcut)

(this is the process for Windows Vista & it's similar for Win XP).

Now go to your Desktop where you will see a new icon for the calculator.
The tiny little arrow at the base of the icon, indicates that this is
a shortcut.

Double click on this to bring up your calculator.

You can move the calculator to a new position by clicking on the top
edge of it and dragging it to where you'd like.

You can safely delete this shortcut by a right mouse click > Delete.

You can also have a look at the scientific version of the calculator,
by clicking on View > Scientific.

... ... (click on a photo to see a larger version)

You can use this method to create Desktop shortcuts for other programs
that you like using.

3. One of our members asked for a good website that does currency conversion.

Here is the one I use from time to time ... www.xe.com

......................................................

In two weeks' time we'll have a look at a couple of photo-editing topics.
The session after that will be about Windows Vista Microsoft Word.
My Windows Vista talk will be in June.
