Using PowerPoint by Anthony Jordan

Prepare a presentation:
Open PowerPoint
Click [Slide] 'Design' in toolbar
Click 'Design Template'
Select a Design
Click 'Color Schemes'
Select a colour

Create the title slide [already displayed]:
Overwrite the two text boxes
"Click to add title"
"Click to add subtitle"
To insert special characters use: Insert -> Symbol
When done: Insert -> New Slide

Add page numbers etc.:
View -> Header and Footer -> Slide (tab)
Fill in the form, as appropriate
Normally tick "Don't show on title slide"
Click the button 'Apply to All'
To edit the overall slide layout:
View -> Master -> Slide Master
View -> Normal

Create one or more slides:
Overwrite the two text boxes
"Click to add title"
"Click to add text"
To indent (with a different bullet style), use the Tab key
To exdent, use Shift+Tab
To suppress a bullet-point use DEL or Shift+Enter keys
To add media (e.g. photos) to a slide, use the Insert menu
At the bottom you can add any [speaker's] notes
To change a slide's background, right-click the slide
If you want a further slide, use: Insert -> New Slide

See the created slides en-masse:
View -> Slide Sorter
View -> Normal

Save a presentation:
Optionally chell-speck using key F7
File -> Save As
Save as type: Presentation (*.ppt) which can be edited later
or: PowerPoint Show (*.pps) to run on another computer

View a presentation as a slide show (whilst still creating it):
View -> Slide Show
or Slide Show -> View Show
or Key F5
Within the slide show, to jump to a specific slide:
Key in the slide number and press the Enter key
To abort a slide show, press the Esc key

View a presentation from a .pps file:
Run the .pps file from Windows Explorer
If the .pps file fails, install the free PowerPointViewer from MS

Print a presentation (slides, handouts, speaker's notes):
File -> Print
Select from the 'Print what:' combobox
Select from the 'Color/grayscale:' combobox
For handouts:
Normally use 'Pure Black and White'
Select the number of slides per page

Insert a transition (animation effect during slide show):
Select/view the slide that is to be animated
Slide Show -> Slide Transition (or right-click the slide)
Select a transition
Optionally, view the slide after a time delay, rather than a click
(This can be used to gradually reveal lines of text)

Insert an action button on a slide (dynamic effect during slide show):
Select/view the slide that is to have the button
Slide Show -> Action Buttons
Select a button type (e.g. Custom)
Fill in the Action Settings form

Hide a slide (to be shown only to some audiences):
Select/view the slide that is to be hidden
Slide Show -> Hide Slide
To reveal the slide during a slide show:
Right-click the slide
Go -> Slide Navigator
Double-click the slide number
